Kindergartners Visited Cincinnati Ballet

Jennifer Frank is a dance instructor with Cincinnati Ballet as well as being a preprimary teacher at The New School Montessori.  As part of the kindergartners’ dance studies, Jennifer planned a field trip to the Cincinnati Ballet where students received a behind-the-scenes tour, observed a rehearsal for the upcoming production of Camelot, and learned some new steps in front of the dancers’ wall of mirrors.

Normally the students see a rehearsal of the Nutcracker with tutus and pointed toes, but this year they arrived during a slow motion practice of fight scenes for Camelot. The children understood the difference between real and pretend and could easily see that the actors were not touching each other, but rather moving carefully among one another with practiced choreographed moves.

Many thanks to TNSM parent Eric Brouwer for his photographs.
