Meeting for prospective beginning strings students and parents will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 5 in the Growing Room. Students in grades 2-6 are eligible.

Melissa Robinson, TNSM’s music teacher and orchestra leader will discuss the strings program and answer any questions the parents may have. Students may choose violin, viola, cello, or bass. We are thrilled to have Melissa Robinson, former NKU director of strings, leading our orchestra program.

Paul Bartel from the Baroque Violin Shop will be present to handle  instrument rental. Parents will have the opportunity to rent instrument and students will be able to take instrument home with them that evening. Students should attend the meeting with their parents so that they can be measured for the correctly-sized instrument.

Fall Clean-up Day

Interested TNSM friends, families and staff are invited to help with fall clean-up 8am until noon.

We will be spreading mulch in both the preprimary and elementary woods (50yrds), cleaning out the mansion flower bed along the teacher parking lot, and digging out the corner of the preprimary woods where the rain runoff washes down the mulch and sand.

Tools for parents to bring would be: rakes (leaf and garden) snow or grain shovels, pitch forks, tarps, wheel barrows or garden carts etc.

Bagels, fruit, coffee etc will be provided. Contact Barclay Green if you can help, so he’ll have enough snacks for everyone. (Current TNSM parents can sign up to attend via an email that was sent to them from SignUpGenius).

Harvest Moon Festival
Sep 23 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

It’s time again for our annual Harvest Moon Festival where we come together to celebrate the TNSM community! Alumni families, current families, staff and friends gather with picnic blankets and potluck favorites from many traditions.

Please bring a favorite homemade dish or dessert to share. We provide plates, cups, silverware and water.  For your own comfort please bring a blanket or chairs for seating on the grass and drinks of your choosing.

There will be plenty of playground time for the kids. (A flashlight and sweater can be helpful as the evenings grow cooler and darker).

Please join us in celebrating the special community we are a part of.

Picture Day
Sep 26 all-day

Helen Adams (an alumni parent and professional photographer) will be taking school photos for The New School Montessori again this year.

There is no fee involved if you do not wish to purchase any photos. Your child’s photo will be taken and included in the annual yearbook, but it’s up to you to decide what (if any) poses you’d like to buy.

Helen Adams’ Goal:

“Say goodbye to the awkward school portrait. My mission is to bring authenticity and fun to  school photography. I want to let kids be kids. Let them be sweet, funny or silly. Let them giggle and wiggle. These portraits won’t be stuffed in a drawer for the next 20 years. They will be displayed where they will bring a smile to the heart every time they are seen.”

Clothing should enhance the portrait and not distract from it. Try to avoid patterns, prints or stripes that are too bold. That being said, these portraits are meant to be fun so above all else, the clothing should be true to the subject’s personality and style.

Life After TNSM @ Growing Room at TNSM
Oct 4 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Every year TNSM offers an evening called, Life After The New School.  We invite representatives from schools our 6th grade students often enroll.   All (9-12) families are invited to attend this informative evening.  We will have representatives from 7 Hills, Cincinnati Country Day, Summit Country Day, The School for Creative and Performing Arts, Walnut Hills, Clark Montessori, and Gamble Montessori.
Here is the agenda for the evening:
6:00 – 6:30
 – Alumni students will meet in the Annex with any (9-12) student participating in the evenings events.   We will provide pizza and conduct a Q and A session between our current students and former alumni.
– (9-12) Parents at this time are invited to go the Growing Room to meet the representatives from the different schools to ask questions and gather information.
6:30 – 7:00
– Alumni students will be picked up at 6:30 and (9-12) students will go the the Growing Room to hear brief introductions from each representative about the programs they offer at their school.  After this, students can go around to ask questions to the representatives.
We look forward to seeing you on Oct. 4th.  Please do not hesitate to reach out with any further questions.
