TNSM 1st in Nation

With the generous help of Lib Stone, local benefactor, TNSM 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have become the nation’s first touring Shakespeare ensemble made up entirely of elementary children. The New School Montessori has been offering an after-school Shakespeare Club for many years, but this was their first year to take the show on the road! In previous years of Shakespeare Club, students have performed Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and this year they performed a 45-minute version of Macbeth throughout the city. Please watch the video below to hear from the director and parents about what this experience has meant to the children.

3rd Grade Play on China and It’s Calendar

Mary Ohlinger-Pray’s 3rd graders shared a play they’ve been working on, explaining how the Chinese calendar was invented and how animals were assigned import roles as rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

Students create their own arcade for Arty Gras!

TNSM teacher Robin Hartmann shared the Caine’s Arcade video with students and encouraged them to let their imaginations run wild as they created their own cardboard arcade. During our Arty Gras celebration, elementary students shared their cardboard arcade games with each other. Their projects oozed hard work and creativity. Great job!

Quadrilaterals like you’ve never seen them…

Teacher Nancy Buchman shared that in geometry, the 4th graders are studying the types and characteristics of quadrilaterals. For this assignment extension, the 4th grade boys laid out the geometry nomenclature that shows the parts of each of the 6 different quadrilaterals. It was great to see them collaborate and discuss this work together.

Making clouds in the lab

Students are learning how clouds form in their weather study. John David, Oscar, and David added hot water to a bottle to create water vapor. They then dropped a lit match into the bottle to add dust to their “atmosphere.” After capping the bottle they added pressure by squeezing the bottle. When they let go, the air pressure dropped, and what did they get? Water vapor + dust + a drop in air pressure = CLOUD After a few minutes, their cloud started to produce rain. How cool!

You’re invited to celebrate TNSM and July 4th in Northside’s Parade!

We hope you’ll join us Saturday, July 4th for Northside’s Noontime Parade! The New School Montessori is pleased to once again travel the brief parade route through Northside, greeting neighbors and friends. We make a little noise, walk behind our school’s banner and show our spirit. It’s a great way to reconnect with one another in the summer, and it’s just fun to be in a parade! Please contact Ann Baumgardner 513-281-7999 if you’re thinking of coming or would like to plan some new ideas of things to do. In previous years we’ve had 25 or so parents and children traveling by wagon, …

Heritage Day in (6-9) classroom

It was like traveling the world, walking from one exhibit to another in (6-9)’s Morning Room and Great Room. Each 1st-3rd grader chose a country from their own heritage to present to the class. It was a pleasure to sample food and hear about the countries represented.

TNSM parent, Daniel Buchholz, shared some of his research with students.

TNSM parent Daniel Buchholz is a biology professor at the University of Cincinnati. He shared some of his research with the kindergartners and non-nappers. They enjoyed petting the female and male frogs and especially enjoyed seeing tadpoles in various stages of development.
