Always Learning

Just like the children, TNSM staff and faculty are always encouraged to learn, discover and explore new things.  As such, many of us shared in the ISACS Annual Conference last week in Louisville, Kentucky.  I heard a great deal of information that sparked my imagination and brought many new thoughts.  Given this fact, I have a great deal to share.  Watch for posts in the coming days that will afford you the same opportunities that we took advantage of at the Conference.  We’ve been inspired to innovate and inspire ourselves and all while amidst a capital campaign and construction dust.

One motivator of common sense, educational ideas was Daniel Pink.  Perhaps you’ve heard me talk about him before.  TNSM staff and faculty have certainly heard of him.  He wrote “Drive: The Surprising Truth about what Motivates Us.”  We read it about a year ago.

Interestingly, the main point in the book is three-fold- Autonomy, Purpose and Mastery.

Drive by Dan Pink

Amazingly, this three-fold idea is Montessori.  So aren’t your kids lucky?

Daniel Pink says that research has shown that children and adults learn and work best when they are afforded these three things.  And these three things are alive and well in The New School’s Montessori classrooms.
