TNSM 1st graders created works of art based on what they’re learning about the Big Bang Theory. It’s fascinating to see how each of them was inspired.

Students create drawings of the Mansion for their quilt square – This Is the Place.

Each year, elementary students create quilt squares that are sewn together into a wonderful piece of collective art. Their work is auctioned at our annual fundraising event to bring in important dollars for our school. The theme this year is, “This Is the Place,” and the Mansion certainly is an important structure at the heart of TNSM. The school has rested within its walls for 45 years with many families spending a decade or more finding comfy nooks for reading, enjoying the building’s Victorian charm, and being welcomed each day with chalk art flowing down each step onto the walkway …

Piet Mondrian and the Study of Lines

Our 4th grade students have been learning about types of lines, position of lines and the relationship between lines. To complement their study, they looked at the work of Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian. In his early years, Mondrian painted landscapes and still lifes, but after moving to Paris, his work started to reflect the Cubists style of using straight lines and right angles. Fourth grade students created their own Mondrian work along with their own title for their art masterpiece. Their work is on display in the Annex.

Pendulum experiments help with motion and energy studies.

Annex students studied motion and energy and performed experiments with pendular motion. They first formed hypotheses to guess if changing either the angle or the length of the pendulum would result in a faster or slower swing time.

Preprimary students learned about solids, liquids and gases.

Preprimary students learned about solids, liquids and gases. They experimented, using various materials to make bubbles. They discovered how to control their breath to create the biggest bubbles and found out which materials worked best.

Elephants on a Spider’s Web

Preprimary teacher Margaret Kellar sang “Elephants on a Spider’s Web” in Spanish while her students, pretending to be elephants on the web,  fell into a heap once the web broke under their weight.

Cooperative Learning

Whether on the playground or in the classroom, TNSM children can often be found helping each other as they learn new tasks.

6th graders act out the life of a cell.

In Human Biology, the 6th graders demonstrated a cell’s life. Each represented an organelle and acted out the job that each performs. They did a wonderful job of bringing it to life!
