YOU ARE QUOTING SHAKESPEARE!

Shakespeare is credited with adding thousands of words to the English language. Before beginning their performance of Macbeth this morning, New School Montessori 9- to 12-year-olds recited famous phrases of Shakespeare’s that have become part of our present-day lexicon. Shakespeare Club performed Macbeth for upper elementary students today and will have an evening performance at TNSM tonight (Thursday, February 26 at 6:00). The students’ 45-minute presentation will continue to be performed throughout the city as it travels to various locations. 6th Graders Study Binomial Square Root

The 6th grade students spent the beginning of the year using Montessori materials to multiply binomials and find the square of a binomial.  Now they are using the same materials to find the square root of a number. For this lesson students used the materials to help understand the concrete process, and the next lesson will demonstrate how to find the square root abstractly.  Next up on our spring agenda is the binomial cube and cube root.

Thanh-Tu’s Latest Book Review

Thanh-Tu is a 2nd grader with a voracious appetite for reading, and thankfully our school library is keeping him well fed.  Once Thanh-Tu has finished a book, he likes to give it a rating and share his opinions about it. Today’s review is about the book 8 Class Pets + 1 Squirrel + 1 Dog = CHAOS by Vivian Vande Velde. Thanh-Tu said, “Out of a 5-star rating, I’d give the book a 3. But it really depends on what you’re reading it for. If you like books that are funny, then I’d give it a 4. If you like books about animals, then …

Audrey and Ryonen Shared Amazing Recipes and Cooking Secrets.

TNSM chef Audrey Cobb and assistant Ryonen Ignatius led a cooking party in the home of co-hosts JP and Tracy Clancy. This Community Party gave TNSM families and friends the opportunity to see “behind the curtain” and learn the secrets of a New School Chef. TNSM parents Ken and Ellen arrived with a letter from their son Lucas. In the letter, Lucas listed a number of his “New School favorites” he wanted his parents to learn how to make! We didn’t get to everything on Lucas’ list, but we made Chicken Noodle Soup, African Peanut Soup, New School “Candy” and Audrey’s Corn Bread. Many thanks to Audrey, Ryonen, …
