Alumni National Merit Semifinalists

Congratulations to TNSM alumni Elisha Aaron, Zoe Cheng and Sofia Goodman whose PSAT scores qualified them as National Merit Scholar Semifinalists. About 1.4 million students from over 22,000 high schools took the PSAT with fewer than one percent being selected as semifinalists.  To continue in the competition, students will share their involvement in school and community activities, will describe leadership and employment experiences and will receive endorsement from a school official. They will submit their academic record, will write an essay and must achieve an SAT score that confirms their PSAT performance. We are extremely proud of Elisha, Zoe and Sofia.

Kindergartners Visit Greenacres

The kindergartners enjoyed an afternoon of fun at Greenacres educational farm. Katie and Sally took our students on a tour of the garden to connect students to the roles that all living things play in our ecosystem. They learned how the tiniest microorganisms in our soil contribute to the health and success of plants. Students gained an appreciation for the diversity in the garden and how it represents a healthy ecosystem.

TNSM Observes International Day of Peace

The New School Montessori was the only school in Ohio to be given a peace pole to decorate for this year’s observance of the International Day of Peace. This annual celebration was established over 30 years ago by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly and has been observed throughout the world. Students age 3 to grade 6 created glass art that adorned the pole. Teachers and students assembled around the pole to sing, read poems and to talk about the importance of peace in our world and what they can do to promote peace today.

TNSM – A Place of Peace and Beauty

As the world celebrates peace together this weekend on September 21 (International Day of Peace) we look around The New School Montessori and are reminded of what a peaceful and beautiful place we enjoy here.

“Look what I did!”

Beth Tracy-Kaliski is a TNSM preprimary teacher who posted this on our school’s facebook page. We had a child come into the 3-6 environment yesterday and pull out the map of Asia, set it on a rug, and proceed to take out the pieces of the map, laying them on the rug next to the map. As a teacher of young children, we can either respond with an attitude of “this child will not be able to complete this work,”or “it will be very interesting to see what he does with this work!” So we waited and watched, seeing him try …

Preprimary woods was abuzz with activity.

Mae discovered a cicada in the preprimary woods and quickly shared the great moment with everyone.   Leo and his classmates learned how different colors reflect or absorb heat from the sun. In their experiment, they observed ice cubes in a Ziploc bag and determined whether the ones on the white or the black paper lasted longer.
