Alumni Updates

New School Montessori friendships run deep. Caleb Lustig (’07), Nathan Lamba (‘07), Daniel Miller (’07) and Nabil Wadih (‘07) who have been friends since first grade, rented a house together at the Ohio State University for the upcoming school year. Perhaps they’ll have “morning meetings” before tackling their work. Esper Wadih (’04) graduated in May from the Ohio State University in biomedical engineering and is attending the University of Cincinnati Medical School this fall. In May, Annabel Forman (’13) played the lead part of “Kira” in Xandu, Jr. with the University of Cincinnati’s CCM Junior Musical Theatre. Claire Harrison (’13) …

2008 Alumni Share Future Plans

I hope everyone takes a moment to read what some of our recent alumni have been up to. Their stories are very impressive, and I am hopeful they will inspire you.  They certainly make me proud to be a part of The New School and to have been able to work alongside TNSM’s amazing staff in supporting these students who are undoubtedly becoming amazing adults.  Congratulations everyone! ~ Eric Dustman The Walnut Hills Alumni Foundation gave ten merit-based financial scholarships. Four of those ten scholarships were awarded to TNSM alumni. Congratulations! Nathan Katkin Andrew Moore Garret Oester Isaac Shapiro Mason …

Summer Student Orchestra at TNSM

Students from TNSM and other children interested in playing in an orchestra were directed by TNSM’s orchestra leader and former NKU strings director Melissa Robinson. Various camps have been offered this summer at The New School, including strings, chess, silent movies, acting, tutoring and bridge programs. We are pleased to have such experienced teachers working in our summer camps programs.

Families were introduced to “life at TNSM” at our potluck brunch

We had a big turn out for our “Bring-a-friend-to brunch-potluck” event over the weekend. It was great for current families to share their TNSM experiences with new and prospective families.  We played outdoors, ate delicious food, and practiced our “clowning skills” with the My Nose Turns Red circus!  It was wonderful to reconnect over the summer, meet new people, and talk about the importance of a quality Montessori education.  Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a delightful experience!

TNSM travelers share about their experience in Costa Rica

Learning about the culture through food Emma tried sugar cane, coco beans, mimbro (a really sour fruit), and even tasted termites. Zoe said she was glad she tried the cow’s tongue, and everyone enjoyed tasting various specialties and local fruits. The food was AMAZING! Ruth said they had rice and beans a lot on the trip, but also got to try interesting fruits from Costa Rica on a farm tour. “One of the fruits was called miracle fruit; it somehow dulls a person’s taste of sourness for things you might eat later.” Helping others through service Emma said, “I have grown to appreciate how lucky I am to …

Students at TNSM’s Movie Camp created their own silent film!

TNSM Teacher Laura Slanker offered a movie class this summer where students learned about famous silent movie stars, including Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. After viewing movies, students analyzed characters and plot, discussed and acted out favorite scenes, read what critics had to say, and wrote their own reviews. At the end of the week, students created their own silent film!

TNSM walked in Northside’s July 4th parade.

Each year The New School Montessori takes part in Northside’s 4th of July parade. This year we had perfect weather and 31 TNSM supporters walking with us. TNSM teacher Robin Hartmann created dragon costumes that were a big hit! Robin once worked with Jim Henson’s Muppets, so this was second nature for her. Kihana VanDiest enjoyed her job as the green dragon riding on the back of the convertible, and others supported Leah’s long tail, as the Chinese dragon. View the video and photo slideshow below.

Perfect parade weather – 0% rain, comfortable temps

You are welcome to join us tomorrow as we walk the parade route behind The New School Montessori banner. Robin is bringing a Chinese dragon that can wiggle and walk down the street with us as a canopy overhead. Join the fun.
