Dare to be Vulnerable?

Anyone dare to be vulnerable? It’s an interesting question isn’t it?

I expect at first thought that anyone would answer “no” and be diligent in their efforts to ensure that they aren’t vulnerable. But, I’ll contend that allowing ourselves to be vulnerable is a good thing. It allows us time to broaden our view and understanding.

Part of my work includes serving on committees for the Independent School Association of the Central States and the American Montessori Society. As such, I travel on occasion and when I do, I take every opportunity to learn something new. Not long ago, I enjoyed a wonderful talk by Dr. Brene Brown. Check out her talk on TED about the power of vulnerability. It provides wonderful food for thought about adults and children, the effects of shame on everyone’s development and the power we can all realize if we allow ourselves to be vulnerable.

Enjoy!
