Jeff’s Update

Dear TNSM Friends,

We have had an AMAZING summer at The New School Montessori. Our new preprimary space (West Room) is beautiful and ready for students! This project is a true testament to the spirit of community at The New School Montessori. The gorgeous tables and shelves were designed and constructed by Robby Lewis (3-6 assistant teacher in the West Room). The spectacular glass mosaic was created by our Spanish and Ex-day teacher, Ximena Flores, and the curtains in our new Nap Room were made by Debbie Weistein (3-6 assistant teacher). Lastly, the funding that made this project possible came from an outpouring of love and enthusiasm from our parent and alumni community. Thank you so much for being as passionate as we are about children, education, and the future! In addition to the West Room we have patched and sealed the parking lot and repaired the teacher driveway!

We have also received our certificates indicating we are fully accredited by Independent Schools of Associated Central States (ISACS) and the American Montesssori Society(AMS). This dual accreditation has tremendous value in assuring our parent community of the quality education their children are receiving here at TNSM. We remain the ONLY school in Cincinnati fully accredited by the American Montessori Society. Here is a list of what this dual accreditation means:

An affirmation that TNSM represents an authentic model of educational philosophy and practices of Dr. Maria Montessori.

  • TNSM demonstrates compliance with the rigorous, qualitative standards prescribed by AMS and ISACS.
  • It is an assurance of the excellence of the school, including its goals, programs, facility, financial stability, and vision for the future, as well as its commitment to continued excellence through an ongoing program of self-examination, peer review, improvement, and growth.
  • It validates that TNSM has met more than fifty standards of best practice for independent education.
  • It confirms that the school subscribes to principles of good practice in admissions and employment.
  • It requires that the school undergo a comprehensive, rigorous and thorough process of school improvement every seven years, involving broad participation of school personnel, the board of trustees, and major constituencies.

Lastly, the Board of Trustees gathered this summer for a retreat, and I am so honored to be working with such talented, dedicated and passionate people. We are dreaming big and are eager to hear your voice. Parent involvement and community building is what we are all about, so please keep an eye out for ways to get involved.
