For Valentine’s week, New School Montessori students in 1st-3rd grade focused their attention on kindness. Inspiring quotes were placed around the room like Henry James’, “Three things in life are important: The first is to be kind, the second is to be kind, and the third is to be kind.” And a quote from The Dalai Lama, “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” A large mural of craft paper was placed on the wall for children to use throughout the week for writing ways they could show kindness to others.
Students braided friendship bracelets for others, practiced empathy, created gratitude peacocks where each feather represented something they were thankful for.
