Masquerade dance party on zoom – Make cloth masks for 1st responders

Hi New School Montessori Friends,

We hope you enjoyed our Zoom Pajama Dance Party on Friday morning. It was so wonderful to see your faces and to get some fun energy out together!

Dancing with friends is a great way to start the day, and on Friday, April 24 at 8 a.m. we are going to have an encore performance — but this time with an extra ingredient: costumes!

That’s right: this Friday’s Dance Party (4/24) will be a masquerade — and a fun way for us to help our greater community. If your child wants to dress up, anything goes: silly hats, wigs, or any type of costume. Be a mystery person, or your favorite animal or character. Or just come as you! I will send parents a link to our zoom dance party.

As you are likely aware, our first responders need masks, as do many other members of our community. This is where you come in. We are hoping that some of you would be willing to make a mask that we can donate. Another (easier) option is to make a headband with buttons that some medical personnel have been in need of to make daily mask-wearing more comfortable.

With the help of Robin Hartmann, and other crafty TNSM staff members, we have collected some templates and instructions for all levels of sewing ability. You’ll find these links below. When you have completed your projects, there will be a box at school during lunch pickup where masks can be dropped off. If you are not coming for lunch, you may reach out to Ryonen and we can make arrangements to pick them up from your porch.

So get out your needle and thread and put on your dancing shoes — we hope to see you on Friday morning for another awesome dance party!
