Thanh-Tu’s Latest Book Review

Thanh-Tu is a 2nd grader with a voracious appetite for reading, and thankfully our school library is keeping him well fed.  Once Thanh-Tu has finished a book, he likes to give it a rating and share his opinions about it. Today’s review is about the book 8 Class Pets + 1 Squirrel + 1 Dog = CHAOS by Vivian Vande Velde. Thanh-Tu said, “Out of a 5-star rating, I’d give the book a 3. But it really depends on what you’re reading it for. If you like books that are funny, then I’d give it a 4. If you like books about animals, then …

Owl Pellet Study Reveals Animal Bones Fragments

Kristen Rammel’s 3rd grade students recently read the book Poppy by Avi. The book is about a family of mice and their struggle with an owl. It was not all that surprising to the students when their dissected owl pellets revealed mouse bones and fragments of other small animal bones. Although the idea of dissecting owl pellets wrinkled a few noses at first, all enjoyed getting a close-up view of an owl’s diet.
