TNSM Staff Was Grateful for the Wonderful Staff Appreciation Luncheon!

As TNSM staff gathered  for a meeting and to prepare their classrooms, they were treated to a lovely luncheon prepared by TNSM families. It was great to see several alumni and current students come along to help set up and serve with their parents. The food was delicious, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone again once school starts next week.

Community Parties with Openings

Community Parties at The New School Montessori are a longstanding tradition. It’s a fun way to fundraise and to get to know one another better. The process begins in late fall when parents, staff and alumni families donate community parties as an auction gift. These parties are revealed on auction night where auction attendees have the first opportunity to sign up and donate their admission fee (for the party) to the school. Throughout the year, families can continue to sign up for parties that have openings. Listed below are parties from the 2020 auction with openings.   To sign up for …

School Lunch Is Ready

I expect that when most children, and even adults, hear this phrase, “School lunch is ready!” their stomachs churn. And while efforts may exist to change the expectation at other schools (see links below), school lunch can be good, not to mention purposeful at The New School Montessori. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/education/2014/08/09/district-drops-federal-lunch-program/13847169/?from=global&sessionKey=&autologin= http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/education/2014/08/09/school-lunch-kids-feedback/13847131/ http://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/columnists/krista-ramsey/2014/08/02/krista-ramsey-cooking-boot-camp/13534925/ Since our beginning nearly 45 years ago, TNSM has chosen to offer its children, staff, and the occasional visiting parent a healthy, home-cooked lunch daily. At one time, children helped in the preparation of the meal, but today, our top-rate chef Audrey Cobb and TNSM kitchen assistant and school …

Alumni Updates

New School Montessori friendships run deep. Caleb Lustig (’07), Nathan Lamba (‘07), Daniel Miller (’07) and Nabil Wadih (‘07) who have been friends since first grade, rented a house together at the Ohio State University for the upcoming school year. Perhaps they’ll have “morning meetings” before tackling their work. Esper Wadih (’04) graduated in May from the Ohio State University in biomedical engineering and is attending the University of Cincinnati Medical School this fall. In May, Annabel Forman (’13) played the lead part of “Kira” in Xandu, Jr. with the University of Cincinnati’s CCM Junior Musical Theatre. Claire Harrison (’13) …

2008 Alumni Share Future Plans

I hope everyone takes a moment to read what some of our recent alumni have been up to. Their stories are very impressive, and I am hopeful they will inspire you.  They certainly make me proud to be a part of The New School and to have been able to work alongside TNSM’s amazing staff in supporting these students who are undoubtedly becoming amazing adults.  Congratulations everyone! ~ Eric Dustman The Walnut Hills Alumni Foundation gave ten merit-based financial scholarships. Four of those ten scholarships were awarded to TNSM alumni. Congratulations! Nathan Katkin Andrew Moore Garret Oester Isaac Shapiro Mason …

Summer Student Orchestra at TNSM

Students from TNSM and other children interested in playing in an orchestra were directed by TNSM’s orchestra leader and former NKU strings director Melissa Robinson. Various camps have been offered this summer at The New School, including strings, chess, silent movies, acting, tutoring and bridge programs. We are pleased to have such experienced teachers working in our summer camps programs.

Families were introduced to “life at TNSM” at our potluck brunch

We had a big turn out for our “Bring-a-friend-to brunch-potluck” event over the weekend. It was great for current families to share their TNSM experiences with new and prospective families.  We played outdoors, ate delicious food, and practiced our “clowning skills” with the My Nose Turns Red circus!  It was wonderful to reconnect over the summer, meet new people, and talk about the importance of a quality Montessori education.  Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a delightful experience!

A Midsummer Night’s Dream at TNSM

After-school club leaders Laura Slanker, Jeff Groh and their students worked hard preparing for Shakespeare Club’s performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  Magic, romance, and comedy blended together to make this an unforgettable classic that has delighted audiences for over 500 years!
