Alumni, friends and families to join us in Northside’s July 4th parade…

If you’re available on the 4th of July this year – there’s nothing more wonderful than to have throngs of people waving at you, clapping and making you feel famous as you join us behind The New School Montessori’s banner in Northside’s 4th of July parade. And what a great message we have to share with the community – Academic excellence with Montessori heart! Please join us as we walk, bike and stroll on the easy walk down Hamilton Avenue. Please call the office at 281-7999 to let us know if you’re thinking about coming, so we’ll have an idea of numbers. …

TNSM Leadership

Despite the opportunities that summer often presents us to relax, take time off, and enjoy the calm of lazy days, much is happening with many throughout our TNSM Community. Service Learning in Costa Rica For the second time in three years, eight 9-12 year old students have the good fortune to have traveled to Costa Rica for one week of cultural exchange and service learning. Traveling with two TNSM teachers, Nancy (9-12) and Robby (3-12), the students have teamed up with True Nature Education Director Joshua Canter and his staff to see Costa Rica, to enjoy many of the wonders that …

TNSM hosted a special gathering of superheroes and princesses.

TNSM preprimary teachers, Lydia Neiheisel and Jennifer Frank, hosted a princesses and superheroes community party at The New School Montessori. Our metropolis was quite safe with Superman I, II, III  and  IV, Wonder Woman, Buzz Lightyear, and Spider Woman and Man all in attendance. I’m not as schooled on my princess names, but it looks to me like Keaton, in her blue dress, was a recently awakened Sleeping Beauty or a “Frozen” Princess Elsa. Everyone had a wonderful time dressing up and dancing to superhero and princess music. We really appreciate the support of New School families and staff with these “fun and fundraising” community parties.

Marin sent us a beautiful thank you note from Japan.

Japanese-Montessori student, Marin, sent us the most beautiful thank you note with a drawing of the school’s Mansion. Miyoko Wordell from the Montessori International School in Japan, brought 4 students this spring to visit our school. They stayed with New School families and studied with our students during the day in the classroom. We are grateful for the friendship that has developed over the years between our two schools.

Annex Bazaar raised $593.60 for charities.

Many thanks to the Annex students and their families for donating items sold in the Annex Bazaar that raised $593.60. The student board elected to split the proceeds between C.A.P.S. (Captive Animal Protection Society) and Make A Wish Foundation. Each foundation received $296.80. Great job!

Yearbooks have arrived and are ready for pickup!

The school yearbooks have arrived and are ready for pickup. Please stop by the office in June between 8AM and noon where you can pick up your book and cross off your name. If you know of people who’d like to buy another, they can bring $35 to the office to purchase one of the extras we ordered – just in case. The books look fabulous; it’s fun to see what a wonderful year we all had together and to read the ads from families and the 6th graders’ memories. We are so grateful to Megan Park for her work in preparing the yearbook for …

Bring-a-Friend-to-Brunch-Potluck

We are still enrolling for the 14/15 school year, so let’s spread the good news! On Saturday, July 19 The New School Montessori is hosting a “bring-a-friend-to-brunch-potluck” from 11:00 to 2:00.  I know it’s a long name but it’s fun to say!   Bring one or more families you know who are interested in the type of education that honors each child’s unique journey towards independence and fulfillment. Oh, and if you need a hook, My Nose Turns Red Circus will be performing at the end of the brunch with two of our alumni! What to bring:  Something “brunchy.” Your family. A new family to …

Camp Ernst Photos

TNSM 6-9 teachers Mary Ohlinger-Pray and Kristen Rammel shared some of their photos from The New School’s elementary camping experience. Each year students practice the independence and confidence they’ve built throughout the year in a new setting with new challenges at Camp Ernst. Students receive encouragement and cheers of support from teachers, classmates and parent chaperones as they wobble across rope bridges, glide through treetops on zip lines and rope swings, ring bells on climbing walls, paddle kayaks, and more. It’s a wonderful time to get to know one another better on this 2-day and 1-night adventure while watching students’ confidence soar as …

Graduation Photos

The New School community celebrated as kindergartners and third graders graduated to their next levels and as 6th graders graduated to junior high. Many thanks to Tracy Clancy for sharing some memorable moments in her photographs.

Debbie and Chef Combo Make Orange Juice Snow Cones

Preprimary teacher Debbie Weinstein and her favorite sidekick puppet – Chef Combo – like to demonstrate various food preparations to the children. They begin by singing songs, washing hands and then getting down to the business of preparing healthy snacks. This week Debbie and Chef Combo ground ice cubes to make orange-juice snow cones. For snacks that require a sweetener, our chefs use natural sweeteners like fruit juice, honey or maple syrup. An ice cream recipe Debbie learned about 35 years ago from one of TNSM’s founding parents, Carol French-Corbett, includes half and half cream, maple syrup and vanilla rolled from one student to …
