New School Montessori students composed, recorded and performed their own music.

TNSM music teacher, Josh Fink, led an after-school-songwriting club. Josh has co-written songs for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Carnegie Hall, and numerous bands. He enjoyed introducing the art of songwriting to these committed 2nd and 3rd graders, helping them create a compilation CD showcasing their work. Click to see and hear their songs.

We are so pleased to have Josh Fink on our staff as our elementary music teacher. He received his bachelor of music and master of music degrees from Northwestern University. He is a composer, teacher, and multi-instrumentalist. As a classical musician, Josh has performed with Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Muti, Oliver Knussen, Pinchas Zukerman, and Pierre Boulez. He spent three years in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago where he also taught through Civic’s Musicorps program. Josh has performed a complete production of Stravinsky’s Soldiers Tale with violinist Rachel Barton Pine, the Bottesini Concerto with the Northwestern University Philharmonia Orchestra, narrated Peter and the Wolf with the Cincinnati Symphony Wind Ensemble, and played many chamber concerts with Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra musicians.

Josh’s recent activities include composing music for the Chicago Symphony’s Lullaby Project where he works with South Side Chicago moms who, through this workshop, learn to write and record songs for their children. Josh is also involved with the Chicago Symphony’s Music in Prisons Projects where he does similar work with juveniles. Josh later creates the musical scores for the Chicago symphony musicians who accompany these budding artists.
