On Monday one of our (3-6) teachers made my day. She sent me a news story about a hotline anyone can call for a pep talk from a kindergartner. Two teachers from California came up with this inspiring idea, and it is now sweeping the nation. Upon dialing (707) 998-8410 you will be introduced to a menu of options:
“If you’re feeling mad, frustrated or nervous, press 1…
If you need words of encouragement and life advice, press 2…
If you need a pep talk from kindergartners, press 3…
If you need to hear kids laughing with delight, press 4…
For encouragement in Spanish, press 5.”
No matter what you choose, you will hear sage advice from a sweet-voiced kindergartner. I was advised to “go grab my wallet and buy myself some ice cream and shoes”

Each year (when there isn’t a pandemic 
) TNSM holds an annual auction and gala. It is one of the highlights of our year. Current families, alumni, and staff come together to celebrate our community. Over the years, we have gone to different venues throughout the city, but I am delighted to share that this year we will be hosting the event on campus!

Over the years, we have gone to different venues throughout the city, but I am delighted to share that this year we will be hosting the event on campus! The Annex (the old church) will be transformed into an event space along with outdoor tents, live music, and DELICIOUS FOOD from our outrageously talented chef, Audrey Cobb.
This year’s Gala is uniquely special for several reasons. It will be our first major gathering in two years. We cannot wait to reconnect, build relationships with new families, and deepen the friendships that have already begun.
Another reason why this event is poignant for many of us pertains to our connection with the Annex. This old church building has been a part of TNSM’s story for many years. Classes, art programing, after school care, old auctions, and many more memories have seeped into the walls of our dear old Annex. This year’s gala will be a final goodbye as we are scheduled to raze the existing structure to begin construction for the Kaleidoscope Center this summer. I know there are many of us that will want to celebrate the new while honoring the past together as we gather one last time in this well-worn, well-loved building.
Lastly, together we have made history at TNSM. With the help of alumni, current families, staff, and outside help, The New School Montessori has gathered the support necessary to embark on the boldest, bravest new chapter in our story since our founders opened the doors of the Mitchell Mansion. All of you who have made the Kaleidoscope Center possible should come and be celebrated. And those who are still planning on giving, the auction will be a great opportunity to do what you can to close the gap and push us to the finish! Everyone is welcome.
