In the Preprimary Environment (by Beth Tracy-Kaliski)

IMG_0494 When people observe in the classroom, one of the first thing they notice is the way teachers and children interact with each other. Teachers keep themselves low to the ground; they get down to talk to children, and respect the same ground rules they expect the children to follow, including keeping their voices low. With everyone in the classroom talking softly, it allows children to keep their attention on their work instead of on the adults. It minimizes a hierarchical structure and helps the children know that this is their environment where they can continue working without being interrupted.

It has always been an important part of our philosophy to have parents come into the classroom in the mornings to spend some time with their children doing a work or reading a story. It’s an invaluable tool for you as parents to understand what work your child is doing, and it helps your child feel a strong connection between school and home. We welcome and look forward to the time you spend here with your child.

While you are in the environment with your child in the morning, please remember to follow the same ground rules as well, ensuring that all children will be able to complete their work with a minimal amount of interruptions.
