Kindergartners Appreciating the Challenges of Artist Frida Kahlo

Kindergartners are learning about the life and works of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. As a teenager, Frida was in a horrible traffic accident that left her in a body cast. Frida used a mirror and painted her cast while recovering in bed. Her injuries continued to plague her throughout her life and she was often bedridden for months at a time. Frida was influenced by her culture and used bright colors and dramatic symbolism. Preprimary teacher Jennifer Frank enjoys awakening a deeper understanding of the artists as the kindergartners study, interpret and identify with each of the artists they’ve studied.
