Students take pride in their Ginkgo House lawn

Students in 4th-6th grade feel at home in The New School Montessori’s Ginkgo House and do their part to keep their place tidy inside and nicely raked outside. One of the great things about Montessori teaching is that students share in the responsibilities of ordering their environment. Taking care of their learning materials, keeping their areas neat, and picking up after themselves all help build a sense of community, accountability and organization that serves them in all aspects of their lives.

“Through practical exercises…the children develop a true “social feeling,” for they are working in the environment of the community in which they live, without concerning themselves as to whether it is for their own, or for the common good. ” Quote from Dr. Maria Montessori
